Autoevaluación

  1. Have you learned more than you had expected in this course?
I have. I learned a lot about the different Latin American cultures, and in my past classes we focused mainly on Mexico, Spain, and Peru. I especially learned a lot about Cuba. This class fixed a lot of holes I had from my previous studies.
  2. Did you prepare effectively for class (competed the Connect assignments, read the lesson contents before class, go to office hours)?
I believe I did. I most all of the assignments on the day that they were assigned for, doing a little bit each day, and I took notes on the book material. I didn't really take advantage of office hours, however.
  3. How did you find the exams (e.g. challenging, interesting, fair, etc.)?
I found the exams to be challenging. It was hard to do perfectly in that amount of time and under duress. I thought they were fair, but they definitely were tricky and I would have appreciated being able to think about the questions for more time.
  4. How did you find the compositions (e.g. challenging, useful, relevant, etc.)?
I found the compositions helpful in writing out coherent ideas in Spanish. It helped my speaking greatly, because I had to look-up common phrases that make conversation more fluent.
  5. Did the “connect” assignments really help you?
I found that they did help me. However, I didn't like the acción assignments where we had to write our own responses. The issue wasn't writing statements on their own. The problem was having to think up answers for the questions that they ask. It’s not all that easy to make a story about historical figures in specific contexts while using specific vocabulary.
  6. Based on your performance throughout the semester and on everything that you have experienced in this course (e.g. in-class activities, homework, etc.), how much has your Spanish improved? How could you have improved more (think about what you could have done to do better)?
I do think that I improved a lot this semester. A lot of holes were filled from my past classes, and my speaking also got a lot more fluent because of all of the talking that we did in class.
I could have improved more if I had talked more and if I had practiced speaking in Spanish outside of class (perhaps by going to the language table).
But overall I think I got a lot out of this class.
